Maintaining Your Terra Cotta Structure

Being a naturally moist material, Terra cotta structures and roof tiles will attract moss and lichen over a period of time. The terra cotta tile will retain more moisture over time as more moss and lichen develop, causing the tile to become soft. Therefore, it is extremely important to properly maintain any terra cotta roof or structure to ensure its structural integrity.

GL Capasso Restoration will repair your terra cotta roof or other structure by completing the following:

  • Remove all broken terra cotta tile and replacing them with similar age and type of tile;
  • Apply environmentally safe anti-fungal solution, if necessary;
  • Pressure wash entire area;
  • Clean and wipe down all external walls and paths affected by grime;
  • Remove, replace and/or treat all significantly eroded and rusted valley irons;
  • Repair or replace flashings;
  • Strip existing ridge capping, gable and verge tiles and re-bed as necessary;
  • Re-point all ridge cappings and gables;
  • Inspect repairs;
  • Air-blow entire area in preparation for coating system;
  • Apply appropriate coatings, sealants and finish;
  • Clean-up and removal of materials from work site.
