Stone Restoration

GL Capasso Restoration takes great pride in the undertaking of renovating and restoring stone structures. After time many stone masonry structures begin to suffer the effects of the elements. Most often deterioration takes place as the mortar cracks. Mortar cracks when moisture is allowed to penetrate the inside of the structure and repeatedly freeze and thaw. In some cases, the actual stone deteriorates. This is especially true with sandstones and other soft or shale stones. Remedial action is necessary to preserve the structure’s longevity and beauty.

GL Capasso Restoration stonemasons will carefully remove deteriorated stone and mortar and carefully match the original structure. The following provides a short list of some of the great stone structures we have worked on:

  • Asylum Hill Church, Hartford
  • Edgerton Park Wall, New Haven
  • East Rock Retaining Wall, New Haven
  • New Haven’s Sea Wall
  • Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument on East Rock, New Haven
  • Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Arch, Bushnell Park, Hartford
